Paralympic champion David Weir awarded freedom of the city of London

Paralympic champion David Weir has been awarded the freedom of the city of London in recognition of his sporting achievements.

The “Weirwolf”, as he is affectionally known, won gold in the 800m, 1500m, 5,000m and marathon at London 2012 to go with the two golds he picked up in Beijing.

The 33-year-old received the award at the Guildhall in London joining names such as singer Annie Lennox, broadcaster Sir Terry Wogan and writer JK Rowling in receiving the ancient honour which dates back to the 13th century.
