Ricky Hatton burgled after tweeting he’d be out of town
The culprits took items including the former boxer's Rolex watches
Burglars targeted former champion boxer Ricky Hatton, after he tweeted he’d be away from home.
The culprits swiped two Rolex watches, credit cards, and a large amount of €500 notes, before smashing the windows of Hatton’s property in Hyde, Manchester, last weekend.
Hatton, who now works are a boxing promoter, has since installed a burglar alarm into his new house, the Manchester Evening News reported.
The break-in came after Hatton excitedly tweeted last Friday that he’d be appearing on Sky’s football programme Soccer AM with former striker James Beattie over the weekend, before going to watch the Chelsea v Man City game at Stamford Bridge.
Police are now investigating whether Hatton's tweet played a part in the burglary, and have searched his home for fingerprints.
Hatton, who has put up a reward for the conviction of the burglars, told the Manchester Evening News that he was “devastated” by the incident and asked anyone with information to go to the police.
The burglaries follow a trend dubbed 'away-day robberies', where footballers’ homes are targeted while they are playing matches.
Late last year, thieves broke into the home of Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama when his club was away for the game at Aston Villa.
