Asad Shah murder: Glasgow police seize Uber taxi suspected of transporting killer to the scene

Vehicle believed to be currently undergoing forensic tests

Police have seized an Uber-branded taxi in connection with murder of popular shopkeeper Asad Shah.

Mr Shah, aged 40, was found severely wounded with multiple stab wounds outside his shop in the Shawlands area of Glasgow.

The grey Volkswagen Passat mini-cab with Uber branding was discovered parked opposite Shah's Newsagents and Convenience store.

This seized vehicle was registered as a private hire cab with Bradford City Council - 200 miles from the crime scene.

An Uber spokesperson confirmed the cab's registered driver last used their app on Monday 21 March.

Uber added that to gain a private hire licence in Bradford required upgraded background checks.

Police Scotland have refused to comment on the seized vehicle.

In addition to his stab wounds, it is alleged the suspect also stamped on his head. Mr Shah died later in hospital.

A 32-year-old Muslim man is to appear in Glasgow Sheriff's Court in connection with Mr Shah's murder.

Mr Shah was killed four hours after posting an Easter video message on Facebook wishing all Christians a happy Easter.

It is thought the assault on Minard Road was "religiously prejudiced".

Asad Shah belonged to the Ahmadi Islamic community which promotes "love for all, hatred for none".

Floral tributes have been laid at the police cordon blocking off the street, with a fundraising page set up in support of his family having raised over £90,000.

Mr Shah's shop regulars described him as a "pillar of the community" and a "wonderful man".
