Police are hunting a motorist who caused a road smash by driving the wrong way down a major dual carriageway.

Three pensioners were forced to swerve, crashing into a grass verge, to avoid a head-on collision with the rogue driver.

Dash cam footage from another road-user, Sanjay Bhudia, captured the astonishing near miss on the A413 Amersham Road in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire, at 7.40pm on Monday.

The 44-year-old father-of-two said: “I thought ‘what the hell are they doing?’ I was so shocked, I feel very lucky/”

He added: “It could have been very serious. It was incredibly dangerous and that person clearly isn’t fit to drive. If I had been any closer we could have been hit.”

He said he stopped to help the three pensioners who had crashed but none had suffered serious injuries.

Thames Valley Police said officers attended the scene and were now looking for the driver of the vehicle, believed to be a Land Rover.
