Pair allegedly attacked guard at HMP Belmarsh alongside a third terrorist prisoner

Three terrorist prisoners, including the Parsons Green Tube bomber and the brother of the Manchester attacker, have been charged with attacking a prison officer inside a high-security jail.

The trio were held at HMP Belmarsh in London when the incident took place on 11 May last year.

Hashem Abedi, 23, Ahmed Hassan, 21 and Muhammed Saeed, 22, have all been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Abedi has also been charged with assault on an emergency worker, over an alleged attack on a second prison officer.

The three men are due to appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on 7 April.

Abedi was jailed for life with a minimum term of 55 years in August, after being found guilty of murdering the 22 victims of the Manchester Arena bombing.

While the device was detonated by his brother, Salman, Abedi had helped mount the plot and prepare the bomb.

Hassan attempted to detonate a homemade bomb on a London Underground train at Parsons Green station in September 2017.

The Isis-inspired Iraqi asylum seeker was jailed for life with a minimum term of 34 years in 2018.

Saeed, from Manchester, pleaded guilty to five counts of possessing documents for terrorist purposes in June.

The incident came four months after the first Isis-inspired attack inside a UK prison, which took place at HMP Whitemoor in Cambridgeshire.

Concerns have been raised about terrorist networking inside HMP Belmarsh after several high-profile cases, including one where a plotter said inmates talked about terror attacks and traded “jihad banter”.
