A woman has had her car seized after being caught speeding at 130mph on the M1, Derbyshire police have said.

The Mercedes G Wagon driver was stopped between junctions 26 and 27 on Tuesday night after being recorded at an average speed of 113mph.

She told officers she was speeding because she was desperate for the toilet — however, police pointed out that she had sped past a service station.

She was driving unsupervised despite only having a provisional driving license.

The force added she was left to arrange her own lift home following the stop, which happened at about 10.45pm.

Derbyshire’s Poad Policing Unit tweeted: “The unsupervised provisional licence holder driving it claimed she was driving fast as she needed the toilet. So fast she missed the services.”

It said her speed varied “between 100 and 130mph, measured to an average of 113mph.”

The vehicle was seized by police, it added.
