Man dies after car plunges off cliff and lands on beach in Devon

A has died after his car plunged over a cliff and crashed onto a beach in Devon.

The area in Sidmouth was cordoned off after emergency services were called to the scene around 9.25am on Wednesday morning.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police told Devon Live: “A man has died after a vehicle went over cliffs in Peak Hill Road, Sidmouth, this morning.

“Emergency services were called at 9.25am.

“The vehicle ended up on the beach.”

They added: “A man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“Police are currently working to confirm his identity.

“Work is currently being done to recover the vehicle.”​

Earlier, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: “Four crews are there assisting with police, coastguard and ambulance.

“Vehicle appears to have gone over cliff and landed on beach.”
