Oxford student ‘arrested after sexually assaulting woman’
The man is now in police custody
An Oxford University student has allegedly been arrested after being accused of sexually assaulting a woman.
The 23-year-old was reportedly arrested on a boat in Christ Church Meadows near the university and is now in police custody.
A “university source” told The Sun: “The nature of the allegations are truly shocking.
“He is a highly intelligent young man.
“His arrest has shocked the university community.”
Oxford student newspaper The Tab told The Sun the man was “notable on the Oxford politics scene”, but added he is “not in a position of power in any society at the university”. The paper did not identify him.
Police are yet to confirm the man’s identity.
A Thames Valley Police spokeswoman said: “A 23-year-old man from Oxford was arrested today on suspicion of sexual assault and ABH.
“He is in police custody.”
The man is understood to be a student at Christ Church College, the same college attended by politics student Ben Sullivan who was arrested in May 2014 on suspicion of the rape of another student. He was later told no action would be taken against him.
