A huge chandelier crashed to the ground in the middle of Sunday lunch at one of Raymond Blanc’s restaurants - showering diners with broken glass.

The chandelier - measuring 10ft across - came loose from the ceiling and crashed down over customers eating at the Brasserie Blanc in Buckinghamshire.

South Central Ambulance Service were called to the scene at around 3:45pm on Sunday afternoon after receiving reports that a “large” chandelier had fallen on a group of nine or ten diners.

Paramedics treated several people are the scene for minor cuts and bruises. No guest required hospital treatment.

Claire Hurst described the moment it crashed to the ground as “terrifying”.

An investigation has been opened into how the chandelier came loose.

A spokeswoman for the Brasserie Blanc, Kathryn Coury, told the Bucks Free Press: “The health and safety of our guests is paramount. Our restaurants are designed and built to adhere to the strictest building regulations.

“We are thankful that nobody was seriously injured and are undertaking a thorough investigation into what might have caused the chandelier to fall.”
