A woman gave birth after laughing too hard at a Christmas pantomime she went into labour.

Kirsty Reed, 30, was watching Cinderella in Plymouth with her husband, which features Gok Wan as the “Fairy Gokmother”, when she laughed so much it induced contractions.

She was rushed to hospital and gave birth to her son Reuben, the next day. Reuben was born two weeks premature as Mrs Reed was not expecting to give birth until 2 January.

Mrs Reed said: “I laughed all the way through and I think the enjoyment and the laughter helped to bring him into the world,” the Metro reported.

A spokesperson for the Theatre Royal told the Torquay Herald Express: "All the staff at Theatre Royal Plymouth are delighted to hear of the birth of baby Ruben and the cast of Cinderella are thrilled to have played a part in the happy event."

Both mother and son are healthy and Ruben was born at 4.47pm at Derriford Hospital, weighing in at 6lb 1oz.
