Ian Jacob dies
SIR IAN Jacob, Director-General of the BBC from 1952 to 1960 , died at his home in Suffolk after a short illness. He was aged 93. Sir Ian joined the Corporation after a long and successful Army career and became Director-General within six years. The BBC chairman, Marmaduke Hussey, said: 'Sir Ian was a remarkable man.'
