Tanker's toll
More than 730 dead birds, three seals and three otters have been recovered after the Braer tanker disaster in Shetland. Sir Hector Monro, Under-Secretary of State at the Scottish Office, said a further 217 birds and five seals suffering from oil contamination had been found alive. A number of fish and marine invertebrates such as starfish and octopuses have been found dead on the tideline.
