Preston’s under-threat brutalist bus station has been given Grade II-listed status by the Government.

Preston City Council wants to demolish the station, saying it would cost £17m to modernise.

But on Monday the plans were effectively blocked as Ed Vaizey, the minister for culture, gave it protected status.

Save Preston Bus Station campaigner John Wilson said: “It’s fantastic news.”
