Bradford has been crowned with the dubious title of “worst” town in the UK, according to a quality of life index.

Anyone looking to move home is advised to head over to Edinburgh, named the "best place to live" in the UK, and hailed as boasting the "lowest crime rate", cheap energy bills and high disposable household income.

Ann Robinson, from uSwitch, which compiled the index, said: “Edinburgh has long been a vibrant city with striking architecture and a world famous festival, all surrounded by stunning scenery.

Scotland in general appears to be more appealing, with Renfrewshire and Lanarkshire in the south west also in the top 10.

Comparison site uSwitch looked at more than 130 UK council areas across the UK and rated them on 26 different lifestyle factors, from employment rate and average gross income to house prices, hours of sunshine and school exam results.

Bradford residents were found to have low employment rates along with some of the lowest gross disposable household incomes, at £13,654 per year, but also some of the highest rents, at £90.60 a week.
