Canadian TV reporter verbally harassed whilst out filming

The journalist shared the footage on Twitter saying: ‘This is not funny and it’s not cool’

A Canadian reporter was verbally assaulted by a man shouting abuse at her while she filmed a TV segment, prompting a police investigation. 

Krista Sharpe, a reporter for Canadian broadcaster CTV,  was out filming in Kitchener, Ontario when a passing driver called out “f**k her in the p***y” before speeding off in his vehicle.

Ms Sharpe shared the footage with her Twitter followers Monday adding the caption: “This is not funny and it’s not cool.”

She wrote: “As much as I’d love to say it doesn’t bother me, it does. It makes me feel like sh*t. Especially as [a video journalist] who is always alone." 

“This still happens to female reporters everywhere and it needs to stop.”

In response to the journalist’s tweet, the Waterloo Regional Police said that they would be looking into the incident.

The department wrote: “We are sorry to see this @KristajSharpe. It is completely unacceptable.”

The Waterloo Regional Police Chief, Bryan Larkin tweeted: “This incident is unacceptable, vulgar and offensive. No one should be subjected to hate and bullying within workplace.”

Mr Larkin also noted that the footage, which has now been viewed over three million times, could be submitted as evidence against the man.

Ms Sharpe has been working for CTV since 2017 and during her time at the broadcaster has interviewed Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau.
