A fuel pipeline exploded yesterday, killing at least 11 people, injuring more than 70 others and destroying homes.
The blast occurred in the coffee-growing region of Risaralda, about 170km south-west of the capital Bogota, and caused ramshackle homes on a hillside to collapse.
Emergency workers said 72 people were injured, many of them children. Fifteen were seriously hurt. Officials suspect the incident was caused accidentally by residents stealing petrol from the pipeline. A fire broke out after the explosion but was brought under control.
