Oprah Winfrey has styled out an embarrassing fall on stage with an Instagram post reassuring fans that she is "only a little sore."

Posting on the social media platform on Monday night Winfrey made light-hearted reference to the incident.

“Sunday Reading and icing. Thank you all for your kind wishes. Yes, I slipped on stage and I’m now a meme,” she wrote.

“But so grateful to be only a little sore. Turning the day into what @michelleobama calls #selfcareSunday.”

She posted a photo of herself alongside the note which shows her with her leg up in an ice sleeve reading a newspaper.

The former talk-show host was caught on video as she took a hard fall on stage during the opening remarks of her 2020 Vision: Your Life in Focus event at The Forum in Inglewood, California.

After the fall she sat up and exclaimed that she had worn the “wrong shoes”, before being helped back to her feet by a stage assistant, according to Stylist.

Continuing her speech barefoot, Winfrey added: “Thank you so much. It’s nice to be talking about balance and fall.”

The incident caused a social media stir as users laughed at the irony of Winfrey talking about the importance of balance just before the accident.

The New York Post reported that the cast she was wearing in the photo is a Game Ready knee ice machine sleeve, which retails around $3,000.

The high tech device combines ice therapy with compression therapy to aid in the recovery of sports injuries and post-op physical therapy, according to the report.

Winfrey's post has currently amassed over 430,000 likes and the comments on the post were filled with more well-wishes from fans for Winfrey’s speedy recovery.

The post's reference to #selfcaresunday originates from a trend popularised in the media by Michelle Obama and Instagram influencers.
