Suspect in police shootings killed
A patrolman has shot dead the man suspected of gunning down four police officers over the weekend. Four people have been arrested for allegedly helping the suspect elude authorities during the two-day manhunt.
Assistant Police Chief Jim Pugel said the patrol officer had stopped early yesterday to investigate a car that had been reported stolen. The officer noticed a movement behind him and turned to find a man he believed to be Maurice Clemmons. He ordered the man to stop and show his hands, Mr Pugel said, but the suspect tried to run away.
Mr Pugel added that Clemmons was found to be carrying a handgun taken from one of the dead officers. He also had a recent gunshot wound.
The four victims were shot in a coffee shop in a suburb of Tacoma, near Seattle, on Sunday.
