Michael Moore tells UK after Brexit to 'enjoy miserable life on your island'

Michael Moore believes reasons for voting for Brexit are understandable, with many angry people 'struggling from pay cheque to pay cheque'

Controversial US film maker Michael Moore believes that Britain’s decision to leave the EU was wrong. Speaking on Channel 4 News, Mr Moore told presenter Jon Snow: “Enjoy your miserable life on your island.”

He added: “You’re still part of Europe, but maybe enough people over there just don’t want to be part of it.”

The documentary film maker was talking about his film Where to Invade Next, in which he praises Italy’s statutory sick pay, France’s school meals policy and concluding that women in charge could change politics for the better.

In the film, Mr Moore decided not to include the UK in his travels around Europe, saying: “There is nothing left to learn. You’ve become an adjunct to us – you have become too much like us.”

The decision to leave Europe was confusing at first. “It looks a little strange to outsiders why you would want to be leaving the European Union. You’re part of Europe.”

However, the reasons to vote for Brexit were understandable, Mr Moore said. “You have a lot of justifiably angry, former middle class people now struggling from pay cheque to pay cheque to get by. Brexit in your country and Trump in the US were like that Molotov cocktail that they got to throw into a system that had failed them.”

Mr Moore was one of the first commentators to predict a win for Trump in the presidential elections. "Donald J. Trump is going to win in November,” he wrote on his website.

“This wretched, ignorant, dangerous part-time clown and full time sociopath is going to be our next president. President Trump. Go ahead and say the words, ‘cause you’ll be saying them for the next four years: 'PRESIDENT TRUMP'.”

With approval ratings at 33 per cent, Mr Trump is the most unpopular new US president in modern history. The Bowling for Columbine director said the best way to defeat Mr Trump was to “try to discombobulate him.”

He told Channel 4 News: “He’s easily distracted. He has a very thin skin and if we can just be like a swarm of bees around him for the next couple of years maybe we can prevent some of the damage he’s going to do.”
