England women came unstuck against Australia’s excellent bowling attack but Anya Shrubsole hit back for the tourists with two quick wickets on the opening day of the Ashes Test at the Waca.

Arran Brindle scored a gritty 68 and Natalie Sciver chipped in with 49 but England were bowled out for 201 despite having chosen to bat.

Pace bowler Rene Farrell, recalled after three years, was the pick of the Australian attack with 4 for 43 and fellow opening bowler Ellyse Perry took 3 for 41 as the home side bowled with discipline.

But Shrubsole accounted for openers Meg Lanning, caught behind, and Elyse Villani, who edged to second slip, as Australia closed on 9 for 2.
