Round-up: Taylor and Patel enjoy perfect partnership to beat Northamptonshire

Nottinghamshire powered their way to an 83-run victory over Northamptonshire in the first full round of Yorkshire Bank 40 fixtures thanks to a 149-run partnership between England hopefuls James Taylor and Samit Patel.

After being left out of the Champions Trophy squad this week, Patel also picked up 3 for 30 from his eight overs to remind the selectors of what exactly they will be missing in June.

Marcus Trescothick blasted eight sixes in a whirlwind 87 to lead Somerset to an emphatic eight-wicket win over Unicorns in a one-sided game at Taunton.

The hosts needed only 15.3 overs to chase down a target of 184, with Trescothick making his runs off just 49 balls and opening partner Peter Trego smashing 75 not out off 38 deliveries, with 10 fours and four sixes.

Daryl Mitchell's 107 laid the foundations for Worcestershire's 91-run victory against Sussex at Hove.

The visitors' captain was eventually run out by Chris Liddle. Even so, the hosts' reply never got going as they lost wickets at regular intervals, with left-armer Jack Shantry finishing with figures of 3 for 29 from his 4.5 overs as Sussex only managed a total of 154 all out.

At Colwyn Bay Glamorgan's total of 285 for 7 from their 40 overs proved too much for Yorkshire as the hosts ended up winning by 28 runs.

After half-centuries from William Bragg, Chris Cooke and Marcus North, Yorkshire's chances of victory suffered a major blow when opener Phil Jacques was out for a golden duck and No 3 Joe Root lasted just one ball longer.

Hampshire edged past Scotland at Southampton as an unbeaten 54 from Liam Dawson helped them reach their target of 193 with just 15 balls remaining.

Ravi Bopara's struggles continued as he made only 10 in Essex's match against Durham at Chester-le-Street. Ben Stokes top-scored with 51 for the hosts in their total of 209 for 5, but half-centuries for Rob Quiney and Tom Westley (71) set up the victory for Essex. Tim Phillips hit the winning runs with six balls remaining.
