Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma put Australia to the sword

Unbeaten centuries by Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli helped India record the second-highest run chase in one-day international history to complete a nine-wicket victory over Australia in a thrilling match in Jaipur.

Australia's captain, George Bailey, was unbeaten on 95 as the tourists posted a daunting 359 for 5. But a blistering start from Sharma and his opening partner Shikhar Dhawan saw them reach 150 in the 23rd over before Dhawan was caught behind off James Faulkner for 95 in 86 balls.

Kohli then struck seven sixes and eight fours and brought up his hundred in just 52 balls to record the seventh-fastest ODI century – and the fastest by an Indian. Man of the match Sharma saw India to their target with a remarkable 39 balls to spare, ending unbeaten on 141 off 123 balls with 17 fours and four sixes.

"I am not sure what to feel at the moment," said Bailey. "Obviously it was some awesome batting. They did it pretty comfortably in the end. Everything we tried, the ball seemed to go further and harder."

In Abu Dhabi, Pakistan took the initiative on the third day of the first Test against South Africa, establishing a commanding first-innings lead before claiming four top-order wickets in the evening session.

The Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq compiled his first Test century in over two years as his side made 442 to lead by 193 runs. The hosts then captured the wickets of South Africa's top four batsmen as they struggled to 72 for 4, still 121 runs in arrears.
