It’s a big game for…

Christian Benteke: The pressure is still on the Belgium striker, who failed to score in Liverpool’s 6-0 rout over his former club Aston Villa on Sunday – although he only featured for 16 minutes. But with Daniel Sturridge netting on his return from injury, the 25-year-old could fall further down Jurgen Klopp’s pecking order – having not scored in 2016.

Weird stat…

1: It is a game of firsts for Augsburg. It is the German club’s first ever season in European competition, and the first time the club will face English opposition, as Liverpool go into the tie unbeaten in the Europa League this campaign.

Player to watch…

Emre Can: With only two goals to his name this season, he isn’t the obvious threat. But the Germany international did net one of those goals in the Europa League – at home to Rubin Kazan. His strength is impressive and plays with a wiser footballing brain than what you would expect of a 21-year-old. Can also netted two of his three goals for Bayer Leverkusen home and away to Augsburg during the 2013/14 season.

Form guide…

Augsburg: WWDDLL

Liverpool: LDLDLW
