When is it?

The draw for the play-off round will be held on Friday 5 August at 11am BST in Nyon, Switzerland (12pm local time).

How can I watch it?

The draw will be streamed live on UEFA.com.

Alternatively, you can follow The Independent’s live blog, which will be live from 10.30am.

How does it work?

The draw is split into two sections – the ‘Champions Route’, for league champions, and the ‘League Route’, for teams who qualified without winning their domestic league.

Teams in the ‘Champions Route’ can only be drawn against other teams in the ‘Champions Route’, and the same applies to those in the ‘League Route’.

There are 20 teams in total, seeded according to their respective coefficient.

So, who’s in the draw?

Champions route

Seeded: Viktoria Plzen, Red Bull Salzburg, Celtic, APOEL, Legia Warsaw

Unseeded: Dinamo Zagreb, Ludogorets Razgrad, Copenhagen, Hapoel Be’er Sheva, Dundalk

League route

Seeded: Manchester City, Porto, Villarreal, Ajax, Borussia Monchengladbach

Unseeded: Roma, Steaua Bucharest, Monaco, Young Boys, Rostov

What's the best and worst draw for the British and Irish teams?

Celtic would surely fancy a trip to Dundalk in the ‘Champions Route’.

The League of Ireland champions saw off BATE Borisov in the previous round and will too be dreaming of a tie under the lights at Parkhead.

Manchester City, meanwhile, may look at the other side of their draw with some trepidation.

Supporters of Pep Guardiola’s side will surely fancy themselves against Rostov, Steaua Bucharest and Young Boys but Monaco and Roma, in particular, would provide stiff competition.

When will the ties be played?

The first legs will be played on 16 and 17 August, with the return legs on 23 and 24 August.

When is the group stage draw?

The draw for the group stage will be held on 25 August.
