Den Haag supporters throw cuddly toys at Feyenoord fans during match

Away supporters throwing missiles at opposition fans traditionally receive a negative press, but the reaction to ADO Den Haag's travelling contingent at Feyenoord this weekend has been universally positive.

Why? Their projectiles were teddy bears.

In the twelfth minute of Sunday's Eredivisie clash, the away section hurled hundreds of cuddly toys onto the home supporters below, having been encouraged to do so by the hosts before the game.

It was all for a good cause, too. On the receiving end were child patients from Rotterdam's Sophia Children's Hospital, who had paraded on the pitch before kick-off.

Feyenoord called on Den Haag fans to "take with you a little cuddly toy to the game" on their official Twitter account.

'Just make sure there are no hard things in the toy," the club added. "So no beads and buttons, children from the Sophia Children's Hospital will be under us in the away end."

Despite their act of kindness, Den Haag's fans were not rewarded.

Goals from Dirk Kuyt, Nicolai Jorgensen and Karim El Ahmadi gave Feyenoord a 3-1 win, with only Ludcinio Marengo responding for the visitors.

Feyenoord's next game sees them host Manchester United in the opening round of Europa League group stage fixtures.

The last meeting in Rotterdam between the two sides in 1997 was infamously marked by crowd violence.
