Thierry Henry sacked: Monaco axe manager after just three months with Leonardo Jardim set to return

The former Arsenal striker has been sacked after winning just two out of 12 Ligue 1 games

Monaco have sacked Thierry Henry just three months into his first managerial job, with the club languishing in the Ligue 1 relegation zone.

The 41-year-old has won just two out of 12 league games since taking charge of the club in October.

Franck Passi, Henry’s assistant, took charge of training on Friday as Henry met with the club’s hierarchy.

A statement on the club website read: “AS Monaco has decided to suspend first-team coach Thierry Henry.”

The former Arsenal striker admitted this week that there were “too many players to name” who have been expelled from his squad due to “thinking only about their own future” as turmoil behind the scenes began to spill over.

Henry was also forced to apologise after referring to Strasbourg defender Kenny Lala as a “son of a w****” in Monaco’s 5-1 defeat.

That result was followed by a compounding exit from the Coupe de France on Tuesday with defeat to Metz.

In total, Henry won just five out of 20 games in charge, with his sacking taking an air of inevitably despite figures at the club reassuring his role was safe.

The role at Monaco was Henry’s first as manager, having served as an assistant to Roberto Martinez with Belgium at the World Cup.

It’s understood that Monaco are now hoping to secure the return of Leonardo Jardim, who led Monaco to title glory in 2016-2017 before being replaced by Henry, as the club faces the very real prospect of relegation.
