Bradford City 0 Huddersfield Town 1: Hudson goes to town at Bradford

Little more than 10 miles separate the town of Huddersfield from the city of Bradford and with the former's manager, Peter Jackson, having made over 350 appearances as a player for the latter this was always likely to be a parochial affair. So it proved as an unpleasant edge to the atmosphere occasionally threatened to boil over.

Keith Hill, the referee, had a predictably difficult job in discerning between merely committed challenges and those with a more cynical edge. Danny Adams, the Town left-back, was sent off on 72 minutes for a brainless challenge on City's Nathan Doyle. Thereafter Doyle was the villain, plastic bottles raining down on him from the away fans whenever he took a throw.

In between the yellow cards Huddersfield and Jackson possessed the calmer heads. An extra man in midfield stifled Bradford's strength down the wings, where the threat of Lee Holmes was limited.

The winning goal came when Gary Taylor-Fletcher's cross was converted by Mark Hudson. City did improve and against Town's 10 men created pressure, but it was not enough to save them from a first home defeat of the season.
