Germany vs Slovakia Euro 2016 preview: What time does it start, where can I watch it live?
A look ahead to Sunday's last 16 match
It’s a big game for…
Mesut Ozil
By no means has Ozil performed badly at these championships. But, much like his turn in Germany’s World Cup win, he hasn’t exactly stood out either. It’s a testament to Ozil’s talents that so much is expected of him. Yet, his performances back in the 2010 World Cup still remain his best at a major tournament. Joachim Low will want more from his midfielder in the knockout stages.
Best stat…
Slovakia’s 2-1 home win against Spain in the qualifiers for Euro 2016 was the Spaniards’ first qualifying defeat in 36 games – a sequence spanning nine years.
Player to watch…
Marek Hamsik
A major grumble about the tournament is how the format lent itself to negative play in the final round of group games. Nowhere was this more evident than in Slovakia’s approach against England.
They will surely have to have some more adventure here, with the hard to miss Hamsik by far and away their biggest creative threat. Slovakia will take heart from a 3-1 pre-tournament friendly win in Germany in which Hamsik netted.
