Sanchez 'not carried away'

Lawrie Sanchez tried to inject a note of realism after a rare victory - and one on foreign soil. "Let's not get carried away," the Northern Ireland manager said following the 1-0 defeat of Estonia. "It is only one game."

Sanchez showed he was not afraid to take risks in his second game in charge. The former Wycombe manager left a number of senior players at home even though his debut game ended in a 4-1 defeat by Norway.

Big-hitters such as Aaron Hughes, Damien Johnson, Keith Gillespie, Michael Hughes and George McCartney were rested.

But the team rose to the challenge and clinched victory thanks to a splendid goal from David Healy - his 10th for the province. The Preston striker also scored a landmark goal last time around against Norway, ending a drought stretching over 1,298 minutes.

Sanchez said: "I gave people the opportunity to come in and one or two perhaps should be involved next time. So that perhaps makes it more difficult for those who weren't involved to come back in.

"I need to have a group of 24 players ready to go into the World Cup qualifiers."
