'Spain rewrites history': The Spanish press reaction to Euro 2012 triumph

The Spanish media has been heaping praise on their national side following their spectacular 4-0 victory over Italy.

El Pais headlined with "Spain rewrites history", celebrating not only the achievement of winning three tournaments in a row but also the style with which they played; "Los Rojas dominated and ruthlessly shook Italy, with goals from David Silva, Jordi Alba, Fernando Torres and Juan Manuel Mata."

El Mundo acclaimed their country's "Legendary Champions," labelling Vincente Del Bosque's side as the "Dream Team", going on to say that Spain "outclassed a rejuvenated Italy" and "gave an effective, deep, elegant, superb performance."

Catalan daily La Vanguardia was just as jubilant, proclaiming "Spain wins the impossible." They said that Spain and the top players in the side have now "surpassed Franz Beckenbauer and Pele" who both narrowly missed winning the triple-crown.

"Spain is now a legend in world football," gushed Marca, as Los Rojas set a record of not only "a triple crown, unprecedented in history," but also the biggest win in a European final.

Marca also highlighted the career and achievements of Iker Casillas who with last night's clean sheet set a new record for minutes without conceding in European knock-out matches. Fittingly, the Spaniard beat Italian keeper Dino Zoff's record of 494 minutes setting the new benchmark at 510 minutes.

Sport lauded Los Rojas as "Kings of football and kings of Europe", and also took the time to single out Andres Iniesta who was named player of the tournament.

AS.com ran with "Three time Champions and legends of modern football" El Mundo Deportivo also hailed the national side "Legends," and made special mention of the heavy Catalan presence in the team, saying that the squad is "Red with a touch of Barca," and that it is no coincidence that we are seeing "the best Barcelona team in history and the best Spanish team."
