Anders Lindegaard is facing action from the Football Association after taking to Instagram to issue a crude response to Wayne Rooney, following the Manchester United captain’s admission that his former team-mate annoyed him.

Rooney claimed that the former United keeper is the “just annoying” in a recent interview with Sport magazine as part of a series of revelations from how he feels about his team-mates to his favourite cartoon character.

His admission that Lindegaard rubbed him up the wrong way seemed genuine though, given that the Denmark international has left United after joining West Bromwich Albion in the summer having made just 19 Premier League appearances across four years at Old Trafford.

Yet Lindegaard did not waste any time in responding to Rooney, and his reply can be described as weird at best. More appropriately though, Lindegaard’s Instagram message to Rooney should be labelled crude and inappropriate, and is likely to land him in trouble with footballing authorities.

That's why you don't wanna be stuck in an elevator with me lad? @waynerooney #happytoseeyoustillgotshitbanter

Lindegaard posted a picture of himself, Rooney and Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey from United’s 2-1 victory over the Gunners in January 2012, with the England captain awkwardly positioned in-between the other two. To make matters worse, Lindegaard added the caption: “That’s why you don’t wanna be stick in an elevator with me lad? @waynerooney #happytoseeyoustillgots***banter.”

The post, which was put up on Tuesday morning, suggests that Rooney wasn’t wrong in his evaluation of Lindegaard, who has made just one appearance over the past two seasons which came in West Brom’s 3-0 Capital One Cup defeat by Norwich in September this year.
