Manchester United news: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists he is ‘delighted’ by club’s transfer business

United spent a combined £130m on defenders Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka as well as adding winger Daniel James

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is pleased with the three signings that Manchester United made this summer despite a quieter than expected transfer window.

The £80 million arrival of Harry Maguire followed those of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James as the club looked domestically for additions to their squad.

Romelu Lukaku’s departure was confirmed on deadline day, and while Manchester United did not sign a direct replacement, Solskjaer is happy with his team.

“Do you know, I think when the transfer window closes it’s that great feeling of relief,” the Norwegian said ahead of Sunday’s match against Chelsea.

“Now it’s done, now we know we’re looking forward with and I’m delighted with the three we’ve signed.”

Though there is discontent in certain quarters around the team’s perceived transfer inactivity, Solskjaer insists the view inside the club is a different one.

“Well, that’s (negativity) not the feeling inside the club anyway and the feeling with the fans I’ve met, they are excited with the ones we’ve had.

“Of course, there is always going to be fans out there wanting to sign players. That’s just part and parcel of being here. The players are here now, they’ve been shown that trust and we believe in them.”

Chelsea will present a tough challenge to Solskjaer’s side, who could call upon a returning Alexis Sanchez to solve their striking issues.

“Alexis has come in and trained well. He’s four or five weeks behind the boys but he’s a striker that we think is going to score goals.”

Eric Bailly will miss Manchester United’s opener with a knee injury, but Paul Pogba should be sufficiently recovered from a back issue.
