Sunderland ready to sack David Moyes if they fail to pick up first league win against Bournemouth

Manager has overseen the worst ever start to a Premier League season and must win on the south coast if he is to avoid his third sacking in less than three years

David Moyes’ reign at Sunderland is falling apart amid suggestions he will be sacked if his struggling side fail to beat Bournemouth this weekend.

Sunderland have made the worst start to a Premier League season ever, gathering just two points from their first 10 games and taking root at the bottom of the table.

Relations at the Stadium of Light have now started to sour, it is reported, with the owner, Ellis Short, losing patience in the Scot who replaced Sam Allardyce as manager in July.

Moyes, in turn, is disappointed in his bosses, whom he believes have not given him adequate support. Moyes was known to be unhappy with Sunderland’s summer recruitment drive, fearing the squad he inherited was weak and destined for another relegation battle.

The Mirror report Moyes was also underwhelmed by talks he had with chief executive Martin Bain and Short. He has also been disappointed with the form of leading players such as Lee Cattermole.

Weeks of frustration have culminated in a key match for Moyes against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday, when defeat may well cost him his job.

Moyes will not even be able to take control of his side for that game; he is serving a one-match touchline ban after accepting an FA misconduct charge. He was sent to the stands after his side were denied a penalty in the recent EFL Cup defeat to Southampton.

Were Moyes to be axed it would be his third sacking in less than three years. The Scot was famously discarded by Manchester United after just 11 months and lasted exactly a year at Real Socieded.
