Tottenham forward Son Heung-min has had his three-game suspension overturned following the red card he received for a tackle on Everton’s Andre Gomes during Sunday’s 1-1 draw between the two clubs at Goodison Park.

Son was initially shown a yellow card for the challenge, before the Video Assistant Referee advised the on-field official to issue a straight red card having seemingly taken into account the extent of Gomes’s injuries.

Gomes suffered a fracture dislocation and underwent successful surgery on Monday. Son initially appeared shocked after seeing the extent of the Spaniard’s injury and his teammate Ben Davies later said the South Korean was “broken” by the incident.

An independent regulatory commission upheld Tottenham’s claim of wrongful dismissal.

In a statement, the FA said: “Heung-min Son will be available for Tottenham Hotspur FC’s next three domestic fixtures after an independent Regulatory Commission upheld a claim of wrongful dismissal.

“The forward was sent off for serious foul play during the Premier League fixture against Everton FC on Sunday 3 November 2019.”
