Tottenham vs Chelsea: Spurs issue statement after Antonio Rudiger ‘racially abused’

Tottenham Hotspur have announced they will conduct a thorough investigation after Antonio Rudiger reported alleged racist abuse from a supporter in the home section during Chelsea’s 2-0 win at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The German defender told captain Cesar Azpilicueta ​of the issue during the second half, with the Spaniard then informing referee Anthony Taylor.

The alleged incident was then registered by the official, which led to three stadium announcements, as part of the anti-racism protocols in the Premier League.

Spurs have now confirmed their course of action and vowed to hand out stadium bans for any individuals found guilty of racist behaviour.

A statement read: “We are now conducting a thorough investigation which will include liaising with Chelsea and their players for their observations.

“Any form of racism is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated in our stadium.

“We take any such allegations extremely seriously and shall take the strongest possible action against any individual found to be behaving in such a way, including stadium bans.”
