West Brom this afternoon confirmed they would appeal the red card issued to defender Pablo Ibanez in last night's 2-1 defeat at Blackpool.

The Spaniard was dismissed by referee Michael Oliver in the 11th minute of last night's Barclays Premier League encounter at Bloomfield Road after he was adjudged to have brought down Blackpool striker DJ Campbell inside the area.

The official deemed Ibanez to have denied Campbell an obvious goalscoring opportunity, a verdict the Baggies dispute after viewing the incident from various television angles.

Albion have until 1pm tomorrow to lodge their appeal with a decision from the FA disciplinary panel expected within 48 hours after that.

If the red card stands, Ibanez will miss Sunday's game against Manchester City.

West Brom finished the game with nine men after Gonzalo Jara was also dismissed for a lunge on Luke Varney shortly before the half-hour mark.
