Juventus are waiting to make a move for Emre Can should Liverpool fail to tie down the German to a new contract, the Bianconeri's general manager Beppe Marotta has confirmed.

The 23-year-old has entered the final year of his contract at Anfield but Liverpool have yet to secure a new deal for the midfielder, with negotiations currently at an impasse.

Can has attracted attention from the continent following an impressive season at Liverpool and Juventus have been notably vocal in their admiration for the youngster.

Although the Italians have no intention of chasing a deal in the final hours of deadline day, Marotta revealed that the club are “watching at the window”.

"Emre Can is a great player," Marotta told Calciomercato. "I don't know if he will extend his contract with Liverpool, but we are at the window, watching what happens."

And speaking to Mediaset at the weekend, Marotta insisted that Juventus will attempt to open negotiations with Can in the January transfer window if, by that point, the player’s Anfield future remains undecided.

Can would be free to discuss terms with clubs outside of England from January 2018.

"Can's contract expires in June, which means we can negotiate in January," he said. "I cannot hide how much I like him, but he's a Liverpool player. All we can do is admire him."
