Transfer news: Erik Lamela deal takes Tottenham spending to £85m – with Christian Eriksen next in line to arrive at White Hart Lane

Bale sale will be sanctioned once deals are completed

The imminent arrival of Erik Lamela is set to take Tottenham Hotspur's summer spending spree past the £85m they will receive for Gareth Bale from Real Madrid, although there could still be plenty more to come.

Confirmation that an offer worth an initial €30m (£25.7m) for the Argentina winger has been accepted was posted on Roma's website, with another potential €5m in bonuses part of the deal. Lamela – who has won three caps for Argentina and moved to Roma from River Plate in 2011 – will have his medical today, with his former club already having announced his replacement in the form of Serbian forward Adem Ljajic, who has joined for €11m (£9.35m) from Fiorentina.

The Romania defender Vlad Chiriches is also expected to unveiled by Spurs today in a deal thought to be worth £8m, with playmaker Christian Eriksen likely to be next. Ajax's sporting director Marc Overmars confirmed that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy was in Amsterdam today to negotiate a deal for the 21-year-old Dane, who is available for around £10m: "Eriksen is going to talk with Tottenham now. Obviously, if it happens, we won't be happy at all to lose him."

Meanwhile, after Willian was granted a work permit today, Samuel Eto'o looks close to joining his former Anzhi Makhachkala team-mate at Chelsea. The Cameroon striker, 32, was once the world's highest-paid player but is now expected to sign a one-year deal worth around £4m in wages.

But on a day when summer transfer dealing finally sprang into life after weeks of speculation, Manchester United's hopes of signing Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid were dealt a blow when the German midfielder claimed he has no desire to leave. "I want to be successful," he said on Real's website. "A lot has been written in the media about other teams, but I have a contract with Real Madrid and I am staying here."
