Manchester City have made their fourth signing of the summer with the addition of striker Stefan Jovetic from Fiorentina, having confirmed Alvaro Negredo’s arrival earlier this morning.

Jovetic had been linked with a move to England throughout the summer, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United all rumoured to be interested in his services.

But City have won the race to sign the Montenegrin, with the club confirming the deal had been completed on their official club website.

It read: "Manchester City are delighted to announce the signing of Stevan Jovetic from Fiorentina.

"The 23-year-old Montenegro international will now join up with his new team-mates over the weekend."

The confirmation comes after Jovetic passed a medical earlier today, and his former club Fiorentina confirmed that a fee had been agreed between the two - thought to be in the region of £25m-£27m - last night.

It said: “An agreement has been reached with Manchester City Football Club for the permanent sale of the player Stevan Jovetic."

Jovetic had been keen to move on from the Serie A club and test himself on a bigger level, though the Italian side were refusing to sell him for anything else than his contract release fee.

He finished last season with 13 league goals to back up the 14 he scored the season before, and he has 10 goals in 27 appearances for his country.

Jovetic signed for Fiorentina from Partizan Belgrade, where he made club history by captaining the team at the age of 19 five years ago, and despite missing the entire 2010-11 Serie A season due to a cruciate ligament injury, he became a key part of Fiorentina's system.

City will hope Jovetic will bolster a squad that lost its second consecutive match on their pre-season tour on Thursday, with a late penalty seeing them go down 2-1 to AmaZulu FC, in which Brian Kidd was in charge as manager Manuel Pellegrini had flown home to Chili for personal reasons.

The result comes after the former Malaga boss lost his first game in charge on Sunday against Supersport United, where they were defeated 2-0 in a lacklustre performance as they opened the season.

He will now wear the number 35 shirt.
