Williams and Team GAC Pindar take Portugal Cup

Britain's Ian Williams and his Team GAC Pindar won the Portugal Cup in the World Match Racing Tour today.

The twice former world champion from Southampton beat Italy's Francesco Bruni 2-0 in the final off Portimao on the Algarve coast.

Bruni has already won the German leg of the tour but the win lifts Williams from 10th to third in the 2011 rankings with Bruni still the clear leader from Australia's Peter Gilmour.

"The guys did a great job and it all came good for us," said Williams, who now flies to Boston for the next event in the Extreme Sailing Series, contested in 40-foot catamarans, and then back to Marstrand, Sweden for the next WMRT grand prix.
