British Touring Cars: Plato takes crown with double win
Jason Plato wrapped up the British Touring Cars Championship by winning yesterday's first two races at Brands Hatch.
The Oxford driver secured an early birthday present – he turns 43 on Thursday – by twice piloting his Silverline Chevrolet from pole position to maximum points at the Kent circuit.
Leading the standings by 18 points from Matt Neal going into the day's racing, and having bagged a spot at the front of the grid on Saturday, Plato was the hot favourite for the title and he made no mistake, winning the first race by over two seconds and adding the second to equal Andy Rouse's all-time BTCC record of 60 career wins.
