Cheltenham Festival 2018: Day three betting guide and tips for the Ryanair Chase and Stayers' Hurdle
Here's our look ahead to day three, and the profits it may bring
This year's Cheltenham Festival has started with a bang with Altior the latest favourite to romp home winning Tuesday's feature race, the Queen Mother Champion Chase.
But that is history now and already we are looking forward to day three, and the profits it may bring.
So here's Matt Trounce, one of Ladbrokes' trading team, to give us his tips for the third day of action:
With rain forecast overnight conditions are setting to be testing on the third day of the Cheltenham Festival. The feature race on the card is the Stayers Hurdle where Sam Spinner will try and complete a rags to riches story for trainer Jedd O'Keefe. The rain is in his favour and he is a worthy favourite.
Best price: Sam Spinner 4/1 (3.30 Stayers' Hurdle)
From a betting perspective the best bet of the day looks to come in the 4.10 where Drumcliff can outrun his odds at a big price. He was an easy winner of his first two chases before struggling when dropped back in trip last time. Interestingly he needed to run to qualify for a handicap at the festival and he is very interesting now back up to his optimum trip. Any rain that falls will be in his favour and he is unexposed compared to the majority of the field.
Best price: Drumcliff 18/1 (4.10 Brown Advisory & Merriebelle Stable Plate Handicap Chase)
Un De Sceaux is short price to win back to back Ryanair Chases at 2.50 but he is a favourite I want to oppose. He is now ten years old and it is hard to know what he has achieved by winning two races on bottomless ground so far this season. He was all out to win last year at the line and the softer ground should test his stamina. Frodon was an impressive winnner of the same course and distance in January and that form has been franked strongly since.
Best price: Frodon 12/1 (2.50 Ryanair Chase)
Given the results of the Arkle and RSA Chase so far it looks like the Irish have the best novice chasers and Shattered Love looks to hold strong claims in the JLT (1.30). Being a mare she gets 7lbs from the geldings and she is five from six over fences including a win in grade one company last time.
Best price: Shattered Love 13/2 (1.30 JLT Novices' Chase)
