Australia's stand-in captain Will Genia has been sidelined for six months after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in the Wallabies' 26-19 win over South Africa on Saturday.

The Queensland Reds scrum-half, who went down with 11 minutes remaining in Perth, joins regular captain James Horwill and replacement David Pocock on the list of long-term injured.

"I don't think we'll have a formal leader any more, every person we've given the title to has broken," said the Australia coach, Robbie Deans. "Will Genia is not there and Will Genia is a special player, there's no doubt."

New Zealand's Dan Carter will also miss his country's next Test against South Africa; the All Blacks management has decided not to risk the fly-half after he was kept out of Saturday's 21-5 win over Argentina with a calf strain. The New Zealand coach, Steve Hansen, said: "We're trying to take him off his legs so he can concentrate on getting it better rather than trying to get it better to play."

On Saturday Leicester kept up their 100 per cent start to the Premiership season with a 34-26 victory over Worcester at Welford Road. Manu Tuilagi went over twice to ensure the home side secured their second bonus-point win of the campaign, but the Tigers' director of rugby Richard Cockerill was not completely satisfied.

"It's a perfect start if you look at the table," Cockerill said, "but it was far from perfect performance-wise; but we will take the points."

Bath also won their second game of the season with a 30-23 home success over Wasps, while the performance of new signing Kyle Eastwood pleased coach Steve Davis. "He is a smart player, we knew that when we signed him, his ability has never been in doubt," said Davis.
