Watch every iPhone speed-tested at the same time

Simultaneous boots show that iOS 7 might not be best for every iPhone out there

If you’re still considering whether or not it’s worth upgrading to the latest version of the iPhone then you might want to check out this fantastically comprehensive speed-test from EverythingApplePro.

The video shows every generation of the iPhone from the 2G (launched in 2007) to the recently released 5s and 5c. Only the iPhones from the 4 upwards are running the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS 7, with the 2G, 3G and 3GS stuck with version 6.

As would be expected the 5s is the fastest of the bunch, managing to boot-up ahead of older generations and load webpages “almost instantaneously”.

However it also seems that all those new animations and parallax views from iOS 7 might be a little taxing for older iPhones, with the 4 taking longer to boot up than both the 2G and the 3GS.

The video concludes with the observation that “the amount of processing power is greater of course as the generation goes on [sic], but it’s marginally less noticeable the higher you go.”

Although the 5s shows only marginal gains in comparison with the 5, some analysts have predicted that its most powerful components have yet to come into their own.

The 64-bit processor powering the 5s is somewhat underused at the moment as developers have yet to adapt their software to the new chip architecture. In the future, this might mean a greater gap between the latest iPhones and the older generations. Still, who knows what Apple will have launched by then?
