Plane hits light tower at Perth airport with a ‘massive jolt’

Passengers were reportedly asked not to take photos of the plane as they disembarked

A plane carrying more than 60 people hit a light tower at an airport in Australia.

The Cobham aircraft, which was carrying 62 passengers and crew, collided with a light pole while taxiing at Perth airport this afternoon.

Passengers told news service 7NEWS that they felt a “massive jolt” and were told not to take photos of videos of the plane as they disembarked, according to local media.

In a statement, the airport said: “Perth Airport can confirm a Cobham aircraft made impact with a light tower while taxiing in the General Aviation area at approximately 2.20pm.

“Emergency services are onsite however there are no injuries to passengers or crew.

“This incident has not impacted any other operations or services at Perth Airport.”

The Cobham RJ 85 jet was en route to the Granny Smith Gold Mine in Laverton, a town in Western Australia.

It’s understood that the plane’s nose was damaged in the incident.

Lindsay Brennan, a reporter for local radio station 6PR, captured workers evacuating Cobham Aviation Services after the crash.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has been notified of the accident.
