Star Wars-themed bar named 'The Darkside' opens in US cities

Calling all The Last Jedi fans – Star Wars-themed pop up bars have opened in LA, New York and Washington DC just in time for some Christmas geekery in a galaxy far, far away.

But they’re not around for long; all three close for good on 15 January 2018.

The Darkside Bar is only in this galaxy for a whirlwind visit (Darkside Bar)

The Dark Side Bars (thedarksidebar.com) have space-themed décor – aka lots of neon lighting – plus suitably sci-fi cocktails, intergalactic small bites and even out-of-this-world entertainment.

The website boasts that the bars will feature “themed dance and dj nights, trivia, alien speed dating and games of chance”, plus an “intergalactic burlesque show featuring performers from many different planets.”

The Galaxy cocktail includes black vodka (Darkside Bar)

Six custom cocktails are on the menu, including The Galaxy, a mix of black vodka, exotic fruit extracts, spirited essence and “secret liquors”, the recipe for which the bar says “was shared with us from one of the emperor’s personal assistants”.

There’s also The Imperial, a blend of spices and rum, maple extract, citrus juice and cayenne, which The Dark Side’s Instagram claims “will lure your darkest passions. When the flame is lit, you’ll realize the truth, that although the force flows through us all, only the darkest corners burn so bright.” Lovely stuff.

The Darkside Bar has opened in LA, DC and NY (Darkside Bar)

Food is only served in the New York and DC branches and sounds suitably weird, with dishes including tentacles on sticks (soy bbq glazed octopus skewers) and Bantha Fodder (vegan sushi egg rolls) on the menu.

Patrons are encouraged to don fancy dress to “blend in”, however it’s not a requirement. Tickets cost $33 (£25) and include two custom cocktails while walk-ins are charged $40 (£30); the bars are open Wednesdays to Saturdays 6pm-2am, Sundays 6pm-12am..

So, in the words of the bar, “Come experience the power, fury and the truly macabre environment of The Dark Side.”
