Victoria's London Underground station was evacuated after a fire alarm at peak time for commuters.

People travelling to work through the busy Tube stop at around 7.30am reported seeing the station deserted and the platforms completely empty, while an overhead announcement ordered people to leave.

TFL said it had performed an emergency evacuation following reports of a fire alarm.

A TFL spokesman told The Independent that it was "standard procedure" – and there were no reports of any fire.

As of 8.45am, TFL confirmed the station had reopened.
