British Airways flight tips from side to side as it aborts landing to Gibraltar due to severe winds

Footage of a British Airways plane flying over Gibraltar today shows the aircraft battling strong crosswinds and rocking from side to side.

Flight BA492 was travelling from London Heathrow to Gibraltar when it hit strong winds in southern Spain.

The flight attempted to land, but due to the adverse weather conditions, the Airbus A320 diverted to Malaga in Spain.

Passengers were bussed to Gibraltar instead.

A spokesperson for British Airways told The Independent: “The flight has landed safely and passengers have left the aircraft normally.

“Due to strong winds in the Gibraltar area, our pilots decided to land in Malaga as a precaution.

“The safety of our customers and crew is always our number one priority.”

There has been no record of extreme weather in southern Spain, with winds of around 25mph affecting the area throughout the day.

Earlier this month, a British Airways flight aborted its landing at London Heathrow during strong winds of Storm Erik.
