Hungarian tennis player apologises after opponent has ‘panic attack’ when she appeared to erase ball mark
Hungarian tennis player Amarissa Toth has apologised her opponent suffered a “panic attack” when she erased a ball mark on the clay court following a disputed line call at the Budapest Open.
Zhang Shuai retired from the WTA Hungarian Grand Prix match in tears on 18 July following her opponent’s controversial behaviour.
Commentators described the Chinese player as being in a “flood of tears” and suffering a “panic attack.”
“I am extremely sorry for what happened, I respect Zhang Shuai as a person and just as much as an athlete. It was never my intention to disrespect, to upset or to hurt anybody,” Toth said.
