Australian fans sob as Lionesses reach World Cup final

Australian fans sobbed after the Matildas were knocked out of the Women’s World Cup by England on Wednesday, 16 August.

Tears flowed after goals from Ella Toone, Lauren Hemp, and Alessia Russo put the Lionesses one step closer to lifting their second major trophy in just over a year.

Composed finishes from Hemp and Russo helped England sweep aside the host nation with a 3-1 victory.

Sarina Wiegman’s squad will face Spain on Sunday, 20 August.

The final will kick off at 8pm local time (11am BST).
